Lee Howell commented on Mike Best's group VINTAGE & HISTORIC KARTS
"My apologies Lindsay, that should have been YZ80L and I sold it as such. Serial Number was 43K-******   1984 (http://dropbears.com/y/yamaha/yzseries74.htm) The memory is not was it used to be  :-)"

"Lee Howell, the H series Yamaha was air cooled 1981, the J series was the 1st of the water cooled 1982. The engine number will tell you what year it is. It would be either a J or a K."

"Yes it's a late 70's Tony kart that has had a few mods by woodgate."

"That rear axle fuel pump set up is exactly like an early ZIP kart.  Are you sure this is a Tony Kart?  Can't see much of the chassis in the pictures."

"Exactly Neville,  it is easy to get rid of the board. Apparently,  so far as the State Parting Councils are concerned,  there is no need to."

"Motor looks identical to a 'H' series YZ80 I recently sold, which had a regular barrel with an overhead exhaust pipe fitted and ran a Mikuni vacuum fuel pump, rather than the axle-mounted pump. The motor was fitted to a DAP WTR chassis."

"Looks like a J Series YZ 80 or maybe the next one.  I have a J series that will finish up on something similar cylinder reversed,  Mike Sully apparently ran one very successfully, like most of his karts!"
