Hey guys, Just wanted to know roughly how much it would cost to have a kart chassis paint stripped and powdercoated and who could do it for me.

Cheers

Where in NSW are you?  I know a great powder coater in the Southern Highlands.  Great work and great prices.

However, wasn't there some talk about the metallurgic changes made to chassis by powder coating?

Not OTK Chassis I'm afraid... as I found out to my detriment recently during a short off-track excursion in my brand new Krypton.

The powder cures at 180 to 200 degrees C, besides, most chassis's are powder coated when you buy them from the manufacturer as far as I know.
Hey Chris, I'm in the Richmond area but if you could give me his business name that'd be great.

Sounds good john. Not sure if mines painted or powdercoated, how do I check? If it is painted how much would it cost to get the paint off? Can you get paint off in an alternate way to sandblasting?

Cheers

Hi Ryan
If you are in Brisbane I have a powder coating plant at Yatala. It would cost you around $90 for powder coating depending on the colour you want.

If it already has powder coat on it, there is usually no need to strip or sand blast it, a bit of sanding, a wipe down with prepsol, then powder coat over the top. You can do up to 2 coats over existing powder coating. Comes up as good as new.

If it has been painted you would need to strip it or sandblast which would cost around $60.

You wouldn't come all the way to the Highlands from Richmond for a powdercoater - there are heaps of them in Sydney.  Still, if you are still interested, they are called DJS Qualicoaters in Moss Vale.

Good luck!
