Kartbook

Australian Karting Forum

So, I received a call from someone who is not allowed to post on Kartbook due to the AKA's ridiculous social media policy, who asked if I might make a post on his behalf. I don't usually do such things, but given the circumstances I'll make an exception.

Apparently, a cadet was disqualified from the final at the Brian Farley for have a blue comer engine cover. Now, pardon me while I engage the most sarcastic tone of voice I can muster, but it's lucky they canned him for that, because it clearly makes the kart so much faster!

Honestly, what the hell are we doing disqualifying people for that? It's a cover! You could paint it with gold leaf and you still wouldn't go any faster! The kid drove all the way up to Eastern Creek from Melbourne to get disqualified because he likes blue. I think the national executive ought to circulate a memo to the tech inspectors of the world and remind them of the value of the old fashioned "verbal warning".

When will the AKA learn that karters are customers!?

Matt,

Everything you have said is understandable, you and mechanic prepared the kart, you and mechanic set the front & rear track, you and mechanic didn't notice the rear wheels were inside the side pod line, scrutineer inspected the kart in an effort to ensure your safety as you were a p plater, scrutineer didn't notice the rear wheels inside the side pod line, state tech inspector is looking for items on the kart that do not comply, nothing particularly to do with safety as the meeting had ended, state tech adv noticed the wheels inside the side pod line as he is required to do as it is a definite technical breach that will effect the handling of the kart, bugger Matt & mechanic must now take responsibility for setting the karts rear track inside the side pod line by 10mm, that's a very unpleasant way to finish the day, it is ever thus, taking responsibility.

I'm glad you didn't waste $550 because you would have.

Mate it's a tough way to learn the lesson but some of them are.

i was just wondering why nobody has offered to purchase the" super blue comer cover " as yet, if it is all i need to get my son to the podium ill put my hand up to buy it. lol.

Does anyone ever go over these rules and give an explanation as to why they are in place? Why do we have the rule for the wheels not being allowed inside the pods yet it's ok in the wet? Whats the reasoning behind it?

I also asked how it wouldn't be deemed safer having the wheel inside the pods, to prevent running a wheel. I was told it is to prevent people using the sidepods to shoulder people out the way.

Michael,

The rule was/is there for a number of reasons.

In the dry: wheels must be outside - otherwise driver can use pods as slip rails and no consequense

With tyres outside the pod you risk flipping or spinning with tyre to tyre contact.

The allowance in the wet (IMO) is a cop out for the reason stated above  BUT

wets are generally narrower and use an offset rim so it can be very difficult to get the tyre outside of the pod,

therfore  it is allowed

However, they (NKC) did stop you having wheels inside of the new rear crash bars because they become a hook that would spin one of the karts when a pass is made and there is contact.

Personally ? - I say we go back to nerf bars

that's when boys were men and you had respect for the other driver or you were on your lid!!

:)

I'm in your corner Yoda.

5K for the cover I hear.  But you'll only be allowed to run it at certain events.

Hi All I believe that it is a matter of a competitor having broken the golden rule...... locals must win. It might seem im on my hobby horse but this is the sort of judgement call that was made in haste, and in error. Like the use of black flag during a race is totally up to one person so depends on if the "offender" is liked or not,in many many cases.

Both kids in question are locals. The engines are from interstate.

Gee Henry that's a silly thing to say without any knowledge at all of the incident.

I have been in karting for some years and have never seen "a locals must win" attitude from any official. They do their best to remain impartial in my experience.

Read what Caine said above and you will see just how stupid your comment is. "Both kids in question are locals."

I know you have a beef with the AKA but you don't do your cause any favors by making silly all encompassing comments like that.

People can disagree with decisions made, but those that bear the burden of making these decisions, or those that sit in judgement do not enjoy the luxury of dissension putting the spotlight on opposing arguments and in the process, ignoring all other factors that had to be considered at the time. In other words, its easy for you in hindsight to blast every decision made.

This subject has been done to death!
