Michael Wiechert, founder of the Rhein-Main Kart Cup and several other series, and one of the most innovative organizers anywhere, was killed Sunday during the season opener of the RMKC in Liedolsheim. According to this and other published reports (in German), Weichert was standing along the back straight at the start of the shifter kart pre-final when he was hit by a kart. http://www.kart-magazin.de/2014/03/30/michael-weichert-verstorben/
Together with his wife Annelie, Weichert founded and ran the RMKC, the Baden-Wuerttemburg Kart Cup, and the German Vega Trophy. Among other innovations, the RMKC is the only German kart series with real time television broadcasts from each race.
I can personally testify to Weichert's great patience and friendliness. More than once he helped us via email and at the events. He would have been 50 years old on April 6.
