My son has just started in Cadet's and is picking up more "pick up" than I can scrape off. I'm sure it'll get better as he learns more about staying on the racing line, however for the time being the constant pick up is causing havoc on the tyres.

If you're in Melbourne and have any Bridgestone Cadet tyres that you're planning to throw out let me know.

Thanks

David

Try running 18 psi in the bridge stones. They will slide around more and heat up enough so the pickup can peel away.

Thanks Chris. I'll try that to clean them up. I've been running 14psi up until now.

Tried 18psi. Got half of it off. Then I "borrowed" a more experienced cadet driver to do a few laps in my sons kart. The other driver scrubbed the tyres, and gave me a baseline lap time for my son to aim for.

FYI, I made up a scraper that is held onto my hot air gun with a hose clamp. I used 1mm stainless as its what I had on hand.

From page 157 -

"Use of a Heat Gun to remove build-up on Tyre treads is not permitted"

Personally I would not put tyres through more heat cycles than necessary

Greg. Worth pointing that rule out. I made the tool to use on my circuit racing sportscars. Can be handy after a stack of laps behind the pace car only to finish on a red flag with tyres like lamingtons.

anybody got any tyres they're willing to let go??

Hi David, I've got a few sets. I'll have a look tonight and send you some pics. I literally have some sitting in the bin at home right now and the garbo comes Wed. Yours free + the cost of the postage (max $20). I might be able to find a better set that I'm not going to use again. What's your number?
