ALL REVVED UP FOR THE COUNTRY SERIES NEXT WEEKEND!

A view of the Wimmera Kart Racing Club

Entries are now open for the 3rd round of the Victorian Country Series to be held at the Wimmera Kart Racing Club on the 19th and 20th May.

This series has built to a very competitive series with drivers from metropolitan Victoria & South Australia as well as country area competitors from both states. The Series has attracted many respected names in the Karting industry and more including Reliance Petroleum as the official fuel supplier in which all have helped the Prize Pool grow to over $10,000.00 worth of prizes.

Horsham Club members have been busy preparing the track and surrounds for their sole open race meeting. The FORMAT of racing has changed this year with 3 heats and then a final, which gives more track time for competitors!  The tight, challenging 520-metre circuit is renowned for producing close, fast paced racing action.

Local Club member and Multiple Australian Champion Remo Luciani will be swapping his racing suit for Grid Marshall attire for the weekend to support his local club.

“With this race meeting being Horsham’s only open event this year we all have to put in for these small clubs to survive,” Remo said.

“I’m lucky that I am not travelling away competing that weekend so that I can do my bit to help my club.

“I grid marshalled at last years event here and enjoyed it very much, so I am looking forward to be part of it again.”

The Victorian Country Series commenced in the early 1990′s as a way for country drivers to regularly race in a competitive environment without having to travel to the major metropolitan tracks. It has evolved into an event that the metropolitan drivers now travel to compete in.

The Wimmera Kart Club is located on the Henty Highway, 5.5km North of Horsham. The two day meeting starts with practice at 8am Saturday 19th followed by the first of the heat races. Camping is available at the track.

Hi there Sabrina (and anyone else who would like to respond),

Just curious as to how the 2-day format was received by the competitors?

Did most think it was a good idea, or did they prefer the older single-day format?

Warrnambool Kart Club recently held their annual Open meeting on the 4th and 5th of February - the first round of the 2012 Victorian Country Series.

There were over a 130 entries across 14 classes. Saturday brought some great weather for the first two heats, whereas Sunday was four seasons in one day as sun, rain and even a dust storm - which haltered racing for a brief period of time - affected the track..
